Patrice Pash:
Hi, everyone. I’m Patrice and today I’d like to talk to you about a few other services that you might consider offering at your urgent care. Now, most people think that urgent care, that’s just the business you’re in, that’s the only thing you’re going to do. The thing to remember is there’s a lot of other services that will be very symbiotic to the usual injury treatment and health type of services that you’ll provide. The first one, the most common one, is Occupational Medicine. Well, let’s face it there are a lot of businesses out there and they have employees that get hurt. So, being able to offer employer services, to treat injured workers, is very important. Many of these companies will come seek you out, even when you first open.

Beyond that, there are a lot of other things that you could offer, such as: Pre-Employment Testing, Exams, DOT Exams and even Drug Screen Collections. Another service that you can consider offering is Prepackaged Pharmaceutical Dispensing. Now, that’s a little bit of a bad name because we’re not like a pharmacy, we’re not actually counting out pills. But you can get prepackaged medicines already in bottles with certain quantities and then dispense them to your patients for a convenience, so that they can start getting better sooner. The only catch to this though, you need to check and see if your state will permit you to do this.

Another service that you can obviously provide is DME sales. Now, we’re not selling beds and walkers and things like that. We’re talking about giving the patients the splints, the crutches, the things that they need so that they can get back out there and can get back to life, the way that they want to.

Membership Programs are certainly on the rise. I think with high-deductible programs, this has become very important for patients so that they can find a cost-effective to still seek care for themselves and for their families. Finally, another common program that we see offered in urgent care can be weight loss and other spa-like types of services. This is something that you might consider, and again, it depends a lot on the demographic that you’re serving.

I hope these ideas will help you with the offerings to your patients and help you be more successful. Next time, I’ll talk about a few pitfalls that can affect your opening day. We’ll see you then.
