Schools out for the summer! Now it’s time to sit back, relax, enjoy the beautiful weather—and find work that helps you get a head start on your career goals. Are you looking for a great company where you can get relevant experience and knowledge? Whether you are a grad or have a year or two left, a DocuTAP U Internship may be just what you’re looking for. With relevant work experience at a growing company, my summer internship allowed me to leap out of the classroom and into the real world. And it was worth every minute.
The work experience has been amazing. Starting with NEO (New Employee Orientation) and throughout my 10-week internship, the company went the extra mile to make me feel like a part of the team instead of “just and intern.” During NEO, I was able to get an insider’s view into a variety of jobs at DocuTAP by working side by side with staff in different departments including finance and revenue cycle management (RCM). As a coding intern, it was especially interesting to learn about customer support, coding, payment posting, refunds, claims management, and receivables. Most of my projects were in coding and claims management where I was able to work with and learn from coding specialists to provide reports for their clinics. I was able to apply my formal education to real-world challenges. And that’s not only rewarding but really valuable.
What I like most about NEO was the opportunity to meet with and be inspired by Eric McDonald, founder and CEO. Hearing about Eric’s ideas and the decisions he had to make over the last 17 years was fascinating. Do you know the CEO of your company? I do.
I also had lunch with DocuTAP’s executive board, where they told us about their position and the experiences that brought them to where they are today. We, the interns, were able to ask them questions–they asked us a few question, too.
Throughout my experience as an intern, I figured out why everyone at DocuTAP is happy to be there. The company has a whole department committed to sharing information and keeping employees engaged—not only in their actual job but as part of the DocuTAP community.
And speaking of community, DocuTAP offers many events on and offsite that employees (and interns) can participate in. In June, I attended a lunch and learn where DocuTAP’s senior accountant, Tami Van Heerde, talked about personal finance. We were encouraged to participate and ask questions. She was happy to provide us with her best answers and suggestions. The Q&A-style presentation provided a great opportunity to bounce ideas off coworkers and get information that applies to our lives outside the workplace.
I also attended a cooking class in July. A cooking class at work? Yes!. We made three quick and easy summer meals, and enjoyed them during the hour-long class. For August, soul food is on the class menu. By now it should be obvious that team building is very important at DocuTAP, which explains why the coding team enjoyed an afternoon of sun and fun at Wild Water West water park. It was a great time to get to know everyone a little better and have a good time with the people you work with every day.
Why did I choose DocuTAP for my internship? I was looking for a company that would give me the coding experience that I needed to finish my education and start on my career path. When I received the email saying I had been selected for the internship program, I thought “Oh, I’m just an intern.” Now I proudly say, “I’m an intern at DocuTAP.”
My interning experience at DocuTAP has not only been useful, but it’s something I’ll always remember. It provided knowledge and experience I could never get in a classroom, and I can never explain in one blog post (like what is an a-ha?) It’s something you’ll have to experience for yourself.
If you want to get real world experience with people who make you feel like you belong, take the first step. Apply for a DocuTAP internship. You won’t regret it.
